State Lawmakers May Have Budget Deal

The ongoing saga of the California budget may finally be at an end, at least for the the coming fiscal year. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and California lawmakers say they have reached a compromise on a budget deal that features deep cuts in social programs and education, and which also borrows funds from of local governments.
 
Grand Jury Slams Niland Sanitation District

The Imperial County grand jury has issued a scathing report regarding the Niland Sanitary District. The grand jury cited various deficiencies and other issues at the district, and called for the district's Board of Directors to respond to the grand jury's investigation in writing.
 
County Employees Wary About Budget Cuts

As county officials struggle to find ways to address a financial shortfall, and a continued financial crisis in Sacramento, county employees have a clear message for the Imperial County Board of Supervisors: Don't cut our pay, and don't lay us off.

Imperial Irrigation District officials say they anticipate District One Director Mike Abatti will resume his duties when he is released from a San Diego hospital.
 
Grand Jury Questions Some County Purchasing Practices

The 2008-2009 Imperial County Grand Jury wants the county's purchasing department to review all purchases done by the county, even those services and commodities that are purchased without going out to bid.
