The ongoing saga of the California budget may finally be at an end, at least for the the coming fiscal year. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and California lawmakers say they have reached a compromise on a budget deal that features deep cuts in social programs and education, and which also borrows funds from of local governments.

The Imperial County grand jury has issued a scathing report regarding the Niland Sanitary District. The grand jury cited various deficiencies and other issues at the district, and called for the district's Board of Directors to respond to the grand jury's investigation in writing.
