Fuentes picked for Supervisor's seat

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced the appointment of  Louis Fuentes to the Imperial County Board of Supervisors, representing District 1.

Fuentes was the president and chief executive officer of the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation from 2001 to 2005."Louis' extensive experience and involvement in Imperial County make him the right person for this position," said Governor Schwarzenegger.

Fuentes served as mayor of Calexico from July  2008 to July 2009 after being elected to the Calexico City Council in  2006. Fuentes was the president and chief executive officer of the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation from 2001 to 2005.

According to the Governor's web site, since 2004, Fuentes has owned and operated Becerril Air, an international air conditioning company. Fuentes was also a loan officer for Marina Mortgage from 1999 to 2001, and assistant sales manager for the Andrew Smith Company from 1994 to 1997.

Fuentes, 34, of Calexico, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in development studies from the University of California, Berkeley. This appointment to the Imperial County Board of Supervisors does not require Senate confirmation, and the compensation is $51,069 per year.

In a prepared statement, Fuentes said he is looking forward to the opportunity to serve the people of District 1.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to represent the people of Imperial  County in this new capacity," said Fuentes. "I look forward to using
my knowledge and experience to address important issues facing our community."

Fuentes , who is registered as a Republican, will finish the term of Victor Carrillo , who resigned from the County Board of Supervisors to become City Manager of Calexico.
