MANA de Imperial Valley Announces Local Scholarship for High School Students
MANA, a National Latina Organization announced this week that it is offering competitive college and university scholarships to local Imperial Valley Latina high school graduates. The application postmark deadline for the Imperial Valley Chapter College and University Scholarship is Saturday May 1st, 2010. Applications may be downloaded at www.ivmana.org or picked up at a local high school counseling center.
Ruth Montenegro, MANA de Imperial Valley President stated, “MANA of Imperial Valley is excited to announce the 2010 MANA Scholarship. MANA de Imperial Valley is committed to supporting Latinas in furthering their education and in recognizing outstanding students in our community. The annual Las Primeras Scholarship Fundraiser has allowed MANA de Imperial Valley to raise the funds necessary for the scholarships and provide them to young Latinas who are pursuing higher education. We strongly encourage local Latinas to apply for the scholarship.”
The 2010 MANA Scholarship is available to Latina high school graduates who meet the following requirements: have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent); have plans to enroll full-time in a degree seeking program at a two or four year U.S. accredited institution during the 2010-2011 academic year and have community service/school activities involvement.
MANA, a National Latina Organization, was founded in 1974 as the Mexican-American Women's National Association. MANA's original intent was to provide a voice for Mexican-American women at the national, state and local levels. The organization has now expanded into a diverse group of Latinas who continue to develop their abilities in political, social and professional fields. MANA empowers Latinas through leadership development, community service and advocacy.
