International Economic Summit General Session to Continue
The International Economic Summit, hosted by IVEDC and CDEM, is postponing the events that were planned for April 29th in Mexicali to a date yet to be determined. This decision was made due to the damages sustained by the 7.2 earthquake that hit this region April 4, 2010. However, all events planned for Friday, April 30th in El Centro will still take place.
“It is unfortunate we cannot have this event happen over the two days we originally planned, but with the damage sustained in Mexicali, the planned events simply must be postponed,” said Daniel Fitzgerald, Calexico-County Enterprise Manager and chair of the planning committee.
The April 30th General Session will feature two keynote speakers. Roberto Valero, Economic Research Institute – Imperial Valley, will present data about Mexicali and Imperial Valley economies. Hasan Ikhrata, Executive Director – Southern California Association of Goverments, will further discuss the Imperial Valley and Mexicali’s unique economic status as an international region. Assemblymember Manuel Perez will provide opening remarks and Congressman Bob Filner will close the event.
Also, in the afternoon of April 30th, the California Association for Local Economic Development will present on Economic Development specifically for elected officials. All elected officials and registered candidates are welcome and encouraged to participate in this valuable session.
“We are very excited to still be able to have the speakers we have lined up for Friday, April 30th. This is great chance for all stakeholders in the Imperial Valley and Mexicali region to learn more about our economy,” Fitzgerald said.
